The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is pleased to invite mid-level media managers from Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam to apply for a groundbreaking professional development programme.

The Media Professionals Programme (MPP) equips participants with sustainable strategies, skills and support networks to advance their careers and contribute to the growth of financially viable and editorially strong media enterprises in the region.

Media professionals from the commercial and editorial side of newspapers, online media, as well as new/small media entrepreneurs and managers can apply.

Successful applicants will benefit from the following development opportunities:

  1. Executive Coaching and the Creation of a Career Action Plan, allowing participants to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and how to leverage their networks and attain the necessary skills to advance professionally within their organisation.
  2. Workshops on Leadership and Media Management Skills, allowing participants to benefit from a curriculum specifically designed for the programme by recognised international and regional media experts drawn from WAN-IFRA’s extensive global network of members.
  3. Sponsored Participation in WAN-IFRA Events,allowing participantsto learn about the latest developments in the media industry and develop their business networks regionally and internationally.

Participants will be required to travel on two occasions to attend MPP events during the programme: once in November 2014 and once in April 2015. WAN-IFRA will cover all costs in connection to the programme, including travel and accommodation.  Participants must be willing and able to commit the equivalent of 2 days per month to the programme and as such will need authorisation from his/her media outlet prior to final acceptance.


Who can apply?

Eligible applicants will have worked in the media industry for a minimum of 4-years and will already have a certain degree of management experience, but also aspire to progress within the media industry in a leadership. The programme welcomes applicants from all departments of a media enterprise (editorial, digital media, advertising, marketing, circulation, business development etc.) as well as new/small media entrepreneurs or managers. WAN-IFRA aims to achieve gender parity in all of its programmes. As such, women in particular, are encouraged to apply for the programme. Excellent English-language skills are a must, since all programme activities are conducted in English. Applications are considered on an individual basis and employment in line with the above-listed criteria does not guarantee admission to the MPP programme.

The Media Professionals Programme Southeast Asia is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allowing WAN-IFRA to broaden and develop its press freedom and media development activities to support free and financially sustainable media worldwide.
